A working group dedicated to patient consent
What ASIP Santé does | 18 Jun 2010
The issue of patient consent and defining for which situations it is necessary and for which it is not is a major concern among healthcare professionals.
To find a solution to this problem, ASIP Santé decided to form a working group made up of key stakeholders, tasked with drafting a guide to good practice on this subject. This working group was set up in May 2009; its members represent patients, and members of the French Medical Association, the French pharmacists association, the French (national) health insurance system, France's data protection commission (CNIL) and ASIP Santé. It meets regularly to draft this practical guide.
Jeanne Bossi, General Secretary of ASIP Santé, says: "this guide is intended to be extremely practical and one of its main objectives is to direct healthcare professionals to the rules that apply to them, depending on the situation, on the basis of observations made in terms of information and obtaining consent".
It should also contain recommendations for the public authorities, should there be any changes to the regulatory framework. This issue will be presented and debated by ASIP Santé's ethics and professional conduct committee.
